Major changes on how colour is used for specific Awareness content changing from blue to yellow & Turquoise. Mid blue has been previously used for colour coding presentation for Autism only content. However, this leads to many negative problems for those living with the Autistic Spectrum. Many people with Autism find the use of the colour extremely offensive. This mainly because of the annual campaign “Light it blue”, created to coincide with World Autism Awareness Day & Month by the international organisation Autism Speaks. The light it blue invites organisations, business and public services to light their environment blue. However many people living with the autism spectrum see this a major problem as the campaign emphasises the medical aspect including cures. A decision has been made to change the colours related to autism only projects and content. This includes changing the colour palettes from mid-blue to yellow & Turquoise. The new colour changes are aimed to show the projects, campaigns & information by Plus Value Awareness is on the autistic people side. The new colours first appeared with the Online special to support a number of different autism Awareness Events in April & June.
Then the changes expanded to the autism-specific features “Autism Focus” and “Understanding Autism” along with Autism edition of projects & campaigns Achievers, Advantage and “Value is”. Further changes will be made with updated capture templates for Social Media to highlight autism only features, projects & information.
